how you going mate I'm in the rfs to the best thing for you to do that is cost affordable for you is get an mcs 2000 with the flash port I'm in Com's and new regulations are out that any member of a brigade is not allowed to have a radio that has rfs frequency's in it has now been passed that a member found with a radio in your possesion will face action from your fco in retrospect you can get the radio programred but do not tell members from your brigade about it

LOL fco's can't do shit about it. Would have to come from the NSW RFS legal team.. What authority does an FCO has to disipline you over an item you OWN! lol I'd tell him to F-off...

I've done about 20 radios for RFS members, including Group Captains and Captains...

A TU 8030/8038/8040 would be the best for what your looking for in regards to price and programming complexity.

I use MCS2000 M2's for my UHF-CBs and they are a brilliant radio but a bugger to program until you understand the cps layout. I have an XTL5000/03 (same flash/profile as NSWRFS radios) in the car for RFS + local VKG Z1&2.

The above radios are best for receive if your DTZ uses conventional voting rather than GRN as they will vote with rx only frequencies unlike a scanner. The MTS2000 M2&3 make a good portable but you might be better off with something like Tait Orca. Forget the Syntrx's as they are getting old and many do not support 12.5khz spacing. Also they are limited in bandwidth and will not do RFS+CB for most areas.

As for tx ability on private radios for RFS networks ..... DO NOT GET CAUGHT! I was using mine for a bit when I was senior in my brigade and a blind eye was turned (loose lips sink ships) but now comms are getting very savage with privately programmed radios (so I found out after requesting availability of the codeplug).

Also, in the last lot of upgrades and reprogramming, comms were looking for RFS radios that had been modified/reprogrammed. One was caught here locally I believe. Due to unauthorised medling, most RFS areas are only allowing RFS issued gear which is being monitored.

you should try and get a philips/simoco PRM8025 or 8020 or even a remote 8030. then you can get a the lead and software and program it yourself and the software is easy to understand.

I am Volunteer Firefighter with the NSWRFS & I'm looking for something that will do both RFS, UHF CB & also has a bit of power IE: 25WATTS on the 1 unit.

I own a GME TX 472S UHF CB but I feel it time I updated as well.

I may be able to get my hands on a Series 2 Motorola MTS 2000 Flashport.

I am also interested in a Motorola Series 3 MTS 2000, MCS 2000, SYNTRX or SYNTRX PRO.

I had a friend offered to sell his SYNTRX PRO but chnage his mind

I hear you might find some ambo radios on the market ?

Fireys use UHF. ANY UHF radio like a PRM8030 will do the job.
You'll need to find out what your local frequencies are.
I was listening to the Blue Mountains crews on my Icom IC-208 which does to 480MHz without a fuss.
