ummm... yes... very interesting. I feel some harasment coming on. A lot of them have CTCSS so that kiddies can use them and not have to listen to you bad CBer's.
Though they have a safety feature built into them. If you step on the tail of a transmission, the radio whill hold the squelch open until there is no carrier, reguardless of whehter the tailing signal has CTCSS or not. It's design to stop them accidently activating repeaters etc.

I've seen a LOT of companies and organisations using them Even doggers on cranes working in the city.
I guess because they are light and short range. Which tends to be better for CB in general anyway, rather than them using the bigger 5W hand helds and actually being able to cause problems with other CB users.

But they seem to be rather generic inside. They can be made to transmit down as low as FRS band which I think is 472MHz or so. Because there are identical radios in the USA and they aren't 477MHz.
The wrist watch UHF CB's that jaycar sell must also use a similar chip. I saw these watches on sale in Hong Kong about 2 years ago (for a fraction of the price) and on an obscure FRS type frequncy.

Are they like those tiny radios I have seen the waiters and others use in say the Garden Buffet resturant in Star City Casino? I figured they must be low power on a CB frequency

Does anybody have any modifications or know what the processor or main chip is in some of the micro UHF CB hand helds ?
